Bald Mountain Retreat is one half hour off of Interstate 91.
From the south: Five miles north of St. Johnsbury on Interstate 91, following the signs to Lake Willoughby, take Exit 23 Lyndonville (under the name "East Lyndon" on the map below.) Follow Route 5 north, then 5A north to Lake Willoughby and the tiny town of Westmore. (Directions from Westmore and a more detailed map are below.)
From the north: From Interstate 91 take Exit 26, "Orleans/Route 58." Follow Route 58 east through Orleans to Route 5A. Take 5A south to the town of Westmore. (Or you can find your way down from Newport along Route 5A.) (Directions from Westmore and a more detailed map are below.)
From Canada and the Derby Line (VT) border crossing:
Coming into the US take Route 5 south (NOT Interstate 91.) In a few miles stay straight onto Route 105/5A (still south) through West Charleston. Then in a mile or so stay straight on 105 and say goodbye to 5A (which will go off towards the right. If you have the inclination, take the more scenic route [7 miles longer] by following 5A south to magnificent Lake Willoughby and the tiny town of Westmore. [Directions from Westmore and a more detailed map are below.] Otherwise...) Stay on 105 south through tiny East Charleston (about 12 miles from the border.) After East Charleston take your first right (approximately 3 miles after East Charleston) on the Hudson Road (During the day keep your eyes open for a large red barn on your right. It will become visible in a mile or two on your right across a large field long before you get close to it. Just past it [it's not actually on 105] take a right on the Hudson Road.)
On the Hudson Road immediately go past the barn and quickly take a left (Westmore Road it should say) up a fair sized hill / mountain. (Don't take either of the tiny lefts, private roads off the Hudson Road before or across from the red barn.) Go up Westmore Road until the road levels out and then a little more and take a left on Mad Brook Road. We are all the way at the end, one half mile past where the road narrows at the end of the town-maintained road. The narrowing marks the beginning of our "driveway," actually a "closed" town road through our neighbor's property.
From Boston: Follow Interstate 93 through New Hampshire to St. Johnsbury and Interstate 91 and then follow directions above ("From the south".)
We are between Lake Willoughby/Westmore and the town of East Charleston.
From Westmore (Rt 5A): Between the white church and the white town hall take Hinton Hill Road up and over the mountain. At the fork at the top stay left on Hinton Hill and stop and turn around and look at the view behind you, please. After a couple of ups and downs and miles, just where the road levels out Mad Brook Rd appears on your right. Take it. (If you get to the Hudson Road, you've missed Mad Brook Rd. and gone 1.5 miles too far.) We are all the way at the end, one half mile past where the road narrows at the end of the town-maintained road. The narrowing marks the beginning of our "driveway," actually a "closed" town road through our neighbor's property.
As a courtesy to our immediate neighbors along Mad Brook Road please drive slowly up and down the mountain. They're not used to traffic. There may be horses in the road just up ahead of you, or a baby carriage. So please use caution, particularly around the bends. It's easy to get going way too fast for the neighborhood, especially coming down the mountain. Please go slowly; there's a lot to see. Thank you.

(Here in Westmore we don't have a zip code, so for Mapquest we use Orleans'.)
